President New Jet

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni is to buy a new Gulf Stream presidential jet for $43-million after convincing MPs that his $28-million G4 jet bought seven years ago is out of date.

The purchase that was approved by Parliaments presidential affairs committee faced complaint from the opposition.

A third of Uganda’s population lives on less a dollar a day.

Mufti Mubajje of Uganda
Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Ramadhan Shaban Mubajje appeared in court for allegation that he transferred Uganda Muslim Supreme Council land to a private company, Haks Express Limited.

Commonwealth meeting
Commonwealth meeting was officiated by Queen Elizabeth II of England but ended less binding on climate change issues. The leader agreed to focus on the youth, globalization, trade and conflict resolutions.

Ebola
Ebola killed 36 and has 135 patients in isolation wards. Among the dead due Ebola epidemic includes a doctor who was taking care of the patients from Bundibugyo district where the disease cases are concentrated.

The ministry of health says though it noted a mysterious disease by late august, it was unable to conclude it was Ebola because of different characteristic than 2002 Ebola.

Still on Health, HIV/Aids antiretroviral drugs factory launched and first drugs from the factory is expected in January 2008.

Floods
21 killed and 300,000 affected by floods in the eastern and central Uganda. The worst flood in 35 years resulted to hunger and outbreak of diseases.

Global fund
Uganda’s former Minister of Health, Jim Muhwezi and Minister of State for Health, Captain Mike Mukula was charged with embezzlement $4.3m fund for children's vaccinations by Global Fund and abuse of office. Alongside them were Dr Alex Kamugisha permanent secretary in the ministry and Former state house official Alice Kaboyo.

Uganda- DRC conflict
The leaders of Uganda and DRC signed a peace deal to end the four-year boarder conflict. Uganda vowed to withdraw its soldiers from DRC, while DRC vowed to take action against rebels based on her eastern part that are hostile to the Ugandan government.

In relation to the above, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo held talks to diffuse border tensions in an oil exploration hotspot, Rukwanzi Island on Lake Albert but officials failed to agree on how borders should be draw.

This conflict resulted to deaths of small number of civilians.

Peace deal between LRA and government
Uganda's government and Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels have signed an agreement on how to deal with war crimes in the third phase of talks to end one of Africa's worst conflicts, the rebels said on Saturday.

The signing, at negotiations in southern Sudan, was a major development in an intended five-stage peace deal aiming to end two decades of violence in north Uganda.
